Bail Support OfficerSupported Community Accomodation ServicesPart TimeTAIHS is looking for an experienced and qualified Bail Support Officer to join our team. This position is responsible for assisting in reducing the number of young people in the Cleveland Youth Detention Centre and QPS Townsville watch house, through referrals for bail support for a young person which will come directly from the Youth Justice Court Coordinator or Youth Justice Caseworkers.The target group for this Service is young people aged 14 - 17 years (also on occasion, 10-13 year olds) involved in the youth justice system who have committed or are alleged to have committed an offence and are remanded in custody due, in part, to lack of positive support in their community.Responsibilities include but are not limited to:Provide support and needs assessment for young people granted bail or remanded in custodyProvide immediate court advocacy and support and identify safe and appropriate family connections for all young peopleMaintain accurate and timely data collection, data entry and completion of any program assessments etc.Comply with all legal, ethical, confidentiality and regulatory requirementsContribute to continuous quality improvement, e.g. identify improvement to policy, work instruction, or the work environmentProductive working relationships with relevant agency staff, Queensland Police Service, Youth Justice and housingQualifications and ExperienceQualification/s relevant to the field of case management and/or youth work or a related field of discipline, with an appropriate Diploma (with a minimum of 2 years’ experience) relevant to the work required to be performed; e.g. Diploma in Community Services or equivalentPrevious experience in a relevant industry, service or an equivalent level of expertise and experience to undertake the range of activities required with the willingness to undertake studies to gain the required minimum qualification;Ability to operate within a case management modelAbility to demonstrate strong capabilities around building relationships with and motivating vulnerable people, assessing needs and advocating for the clientDemonstrated experience and positive engagement when working with young persons of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander backgroundsDemonstrated experience in critical incidents and suicide risk managementPractical RequirementsWork out of normal hours of duty and travel across the region may be requiredCurrent C Class Drivers Licence (QLD)Current Blue Card (working with children and young people) or willingness to apply for a Blue CardSatisfactory Police Check – no Serious/Criminal/Court Record (if required)Please email recruitment@taihs.net.au for an application package.ABORIGINAL & TORRES STRAIT ISLANDER APPLICANTS ARE STRONGLY ENCOURAGED TO APPLYApplications Close: 5 pm Monday, 14 October 2019Phone: (07) 4431 1415 or 4431 1420Applications lodged without the required documentation will not be deemed complete 0 AUD Townsville

Qualifications and Experience

  • Qualification/s relevant to the field of case management and/or youth work or a related field of discipline, with an appropriate Diploma (with a minimum of 2 years’ experience) relevant to the work required to be performed; e.g. Diploma in Community Services or equivalent
  • Previous experience in a relevant industry, service or an equivalent level of expertise and experience to undertake the range of activities required with the willingness to undertake studies to gain the required minimum qualification;
  • Ability to operate within a case management model
  • Ability to demonstrate strong capabilities around building relationships with and motivating vulnerable people, assessing needs and advocating for the client
  • Demonstrated experience and positive engagement when working with young persons of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander backgrounds
  • Demonstrated experience in critical incidents and suicide risk management

Practical Requirements

  • Work out of normal hours of duty and travel across the region may be required
  • Current C Class Drivers Licence (QLD)
  • Current Blue Card (working with children and young people) or willingness to apply for a Blue Card
  • Satisfactory Police Check – no Serious/Criminal/Court Record (if required)
